MEGHALAYA : THE ABODE OF CLOUDS


Hello guys…. In this blog I will be discussing about one of the best and famous place in entire North East and that is Meghalaya.

Meghalaya is one of the most popular destination amongst tourists from over the world. Every year tourists in huge numbers visit this place . Meghalaya is called home of clouds. It takes about 3 hours drive from Guwahati to Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong. Meghalaya is divided into 11 districts. There are three types of hills region and they are Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills.
Now I am going to give a brief idea about the places that you can visit in Meghalaya during your stay.




Shillong:- The capital city of Meghalaya. With the population of about 1.50 lakhs people , Shillong is one of  the beautiful hill station in the north east of India. Shillong is famous for its manicured gardens and elephant falls. Often Shillong is called “ Scotland of East” because its natural vibes are similar to that of Scotland. Here you will find people majority of the people speaking English , but their official language is Khasi. The city looks very beautiful from the Shillong peak( a popular view point). It just takes about 3 hrs from Guwahati to Shillong. There are some of the beautiful locations in Shillong , one of them is Shillong peak, elephant falls and Polo Ground. The city is very neat and clean and the weather is so pleasant. When it comes to accommodation , there are some of the best hotels for the tourist from all over the world. Price of the hotels start from 3,434 INR. There are different hotels in different locations with different prices.




 
Cherrapunji(Sohra):- Cherrapunji is also another beautiful and popular destination in Meghalaya. About 1 and half hour drive from Shillong it takes. With a population  of about  14000 people, this place is known for its Caves and Waterfalls. Also throughout the year it is one of the places where heavy rainfall happens. Like the weather of London, the weather of Cherrapunji cannot be predicted. A lot of tourists who visits Shillong , visits Cherrapunji too. The popular places are Seven Sister waterfall , Mawsmai Cave, Eco Park, and Wahrew Arch Bridge . Apart from that you will be able to see while going on the route to Cherrapunji , the oldest Ramakrishna Mission on the top of the hill. There are some good number of resorts in Cherrapunji , also you can come back to Shillong in the same day itself. But if staying is your option then there are resorts having budget friendly prices like 4,947 INR. Cherrapunji ‘s earlier name is Sohra.



Dawki:- It is one of the beautiful places in Meghalaya . It is about 45km away from Shillong. This place is famous for its villages and other beautiful spots. It falls under West Jaintia Hills. In Dawki you can visit some of the best places like Dawki river, Wah Umngot , Dawki Boating Point and some of the waterfalls. Besides that you will be able to see the India- Bangladesh border which is called Tamabila 0 points. Several tourists from different parts of the globe visits every year in Dawki. Overall it is a very beautiful and natural place.



Mawlynnong:- Almost everyone in this world knows how and for what this place is so famous. It is called Asia’s cleanest village. This village is so beautiful that you wont see any dirtiness or any kind of garbages thrown in road. The people maintain this village so nicely. One of the most visited places from tourists from all over the world. Falls under East Khasi Hills , this place is also called “ God’s own garden”. It takes 2 hrs and 15 mins from Shillong to Mawlynnong and 1 hour from Dawki. You can come back in same day by visiting this two places. There are some resorts but I will recommend to visit and come back in the same day either to Shillong or to Cherrapunji.
